Our Story
ART BLOCK began with a simple desire: an easy way to make new friends who enjoyed a creative habit. We noticed an opportunity to create something Boston was missing—a free, consistent, community-centered space designed specifically for the casual creative.
We love that Boston has such a rich creative ecosystem, from professional development programs to makerspaces to casual social events. We saw an opportunity to add something new to this landscape: a regular gathering place for people who want to explore creativity without pressure, build meaningful friendships, and give back to their community.
So, in January 2023, we created that missing piece and have been growing ever since.

We partner with local coffee shops, organize fundraisers, and strengthen Boston's creative ecosystem. Art should build community, not just consume space in it.

Expanding access to creativity
There’s a missing rung on the ladder between “total beginner” and “committed art professional”. We fill that space—free, low-pressue, and experimental. We want people to discover what they love before investing heavily. We complement paid arts programming by helping people find their own creative paths.
